In the last days, the faithful huddled around the sacred texts, terrified of the world outside but comforted by the words of devotion, as the plagues began, one by one, as foretold. Secure in the promises of the hereafter, they accepted the worsening conditions as the quickening of the Lord's ultimate gift.

When the moment arrived, even the faithful held back no tears as their loved ones disappeared from their sight like phantoms in the wind.
And the people looked up, and knew surely that deliverance was upon them.

But it was not the Lord God whom they saw.
